Physiology
Firelizards are the tiny relatives of dragons, from which the larger creatures were genetically engineered. They strongly resemble their larger cousins, but are much smaller. Queens average around three feet in length, while the other colours tend to be proportionally smaller. Like many Pernese lifeforms, firelizards have six limbs: four legs and two wings. Their possible colours and lengths follow.
- Gold: 2.5 to 3 ft.
- Bronze: 2 to 2.8 ft.
- Brown: 1.5 to 2 ft.
- Blue: 1 to 1.5 ft.
- Green: 0.8 to 1.3 ft.
- Pink: 0.5 to 1 ft.
Psychology
Unlike the dragons which are capable of speaking telepathically with their human riders, firelizards are limited to conveying 'images' or emotions to their human friends. Consequently, the bond between humans and firelizards is weaker than with dragons. This allows people to impress more than one firelizard.
Firelizards also have the ability to go between, or teleport. Theoretically firelizards should demonstrate telekinesis, but only dragons have demonstrated the intelligence required to move objects from one place to the next.
Mating & Reproduction
Like their dragon cousins, all female firelizards experience a periodic urge to mate. They too fly, and interested males compete to catch the female. All female firelizards, however, can produce clutches; fighter clutches, however, tend to have a high percentage of dud eggs. Following are the sizes of clutches that female firelizards can produce.
- Gold: 10-48 eggs.
- Green: Up to 5 eggs.
- Pink: Up to 5 eggs.
