Dragon Colours

Here may be found records of all the dragon colours known to the Silver Weyr. They contain sizes, impression candidates, and typical personalities and appearances of each colour. There may be variations in a given colour, but most dragons stick to the general rule.

Colour: Gold
Impresses To: Heterosexual females.
Length: 45-50 feet.

Personality:
Gold dragons are strong-willed and dominant, though their individual personalities may vary widely. All of them tend to make strong leaders and it is very difficult to sway them once they have made a decision. Many are also stubborn and they can be bratty or aggressive at times.

Appearance:
Physically, gold dragons are very imposing. Though not precisely bulky, they are powerful and extremely large, and are decidedly the largest dragons on Pern. Their hides are always metallic, giving away their status as queen.
Clutches: 10-60 eggs.





Colour: Silver
Impresses To: Unknown.
Length: 43-48 feet.

Personality:
Silver dragons are extremely dominant creatures, and they will listen only to a gold dragon. They are highly intelligent and friendly, and also seem to have good memories. However, they can be moody and irritable. Though they are good leaders, silvers can be extremely aggressive. They are capable of surviving without Impressing to a human.

Appearance:
Silver dragons, like the golden queens, have metallic hides. Their builds are lighter, however, with proportionally larger wings and more slender builds. Their tails tend to be a little long for their bodies as well.
Clutches: 10-40 eggs.

Colour: Bronze
Impresses To: Heterosexual males.
Length: 38-45 feet.

Personality:
Bronze dragons are level-headed leaders, suited to their role as kings. Behind their even tempers, however, lies a wealth of passion and sometimes ambition. They know that they are the rulers of the Weyr but they do not abuse their power. Most are responsible, with a desire to do what is best for the dragons they rule over.

Appearance:
Bronze dragons are very large, and built powerfully. They are muscular but not bulky, with sturdy builds and broad wings. Their hides are somewhat metallic and always in shades of natural bronze, with yellows and greens being the predominant tones.
Chases: Any female gold or below.

Colour: Amethyst
Impresses To: Heterosexual or bisexual females.
Length: 37-42 feet.

Personality:
While their memory isn't always the greatest, they're really quite intelligent individuals, full of curiosity and eager to learn; however, with a relentless optimism, they can seem rather dim in their willingness to trust in others without question. While protective of those considered their own, willing to do anything to defend what they love if no other alternative is clear, Amethysts are primarily soft creatures, lovers rather than fighters. They're dreamers, with their heads in the clouds and intent on turning the world into a beautiful place for everyone to enjoy. However, they can be rather sensitive as far as their emotions go, easy to hurt and yet quick to forgive.

Appearance:
Typically quite stocky in their build with much of their strength present in their hind legs, their girths and flanks are bulky in comparison to the narrow set of their front legs and chest. Their colouring is rarely one set shade; in fact, it's common for their coat to display multiple shades of purple, ranging from the deepest violet to the palest lavender, and in any variety of markings.
Clutches: Up to 15 eggs.

Colour: Brown
Impresses To: Heterosexual or bisexual males.
Length: 30-35 feet.

Personality:
Calm and responsible, brown dragons are the workers of the Weyr. They shoulder responsibility easily, and though they generally prefer following to leading, they make excellent leaders in a crisis. Because they are rational and intelligent dragons, they tend to offer good advice and act as a steadfast presence in others' lives.

Appearance:
Built strongly, with reasonably muscular frames, browns are, like their bronze kin, built for stamina. They are powerful and lean, with hides ranging in shade from a light tannish colour to a dark, rich chocolate brown.
Chases: Any female green or below, sometimes queens.

Colour: Yellow
Impresses To: Males, usually bisexual or homosexual, or females, usually bisexual.
Length: 26-31 feet.

Personality:
Cheerful and radiant, yellows are friends of virtually everyone. They are bright and intelligent, and extremely curious. As a rule, if something is in the presence of a yellow dragon, it's going to be investigated. However, these dragons can be quite blunt and obvious about what they want, and can be a bit pushy at times. Mostly, however, they are quite sweet.

Appearance:
Slim and elegant, yellow dragons have slightly feminine builds. Their wings are quite narrow, and their legs tend to be proportionally long for their bodies. The hides of these fighters can range from bright yellow, to greenish-yellow, to dark yellow-grey, but they are very distinctly yellow.
Chases: Any female green or below; sometimes under queens.




Colour: Blue
Impresses To: Males, any sexuality, or females, usually bisexual or homosexual.
Length: 25-30 feet.

Personality:
Stoic, quiet dragons, blues have extremely stable emotions. They are rarely volatile and are usually quite gentle, though there are exceptions to the rule. Generally, blues are willing followers and supportive of their superiors. They are moderately intelligent.

Appearance:
Blues are solidly built dragons. For all that they aren't very big, they have slightly short, squat bodies and strong wings, with all of their features in proportion to the others. Their hides can be any shade of blue, from nearly white to nearly black and any shade in between.
Chases: Any female green or below.

Colour: Green
Impresses To: Females, any sexuality, or males, usually homosexual.
Length: 22-26 feet.

Personality:
Flighty and whimsical are the describing words for greens. They are emotional and instinctive, and tend to act before they think, though their personalities vary widely. Most are flirty and love attention, and their basic personalities can range from sweet and shy to pushy and possessive.

Appearance:
Green dragons are feminine in their builds. They are slender and elegant creatures, with well-proportioned bodies and pretty heads. Their hides can be any shade of green.
Clutches: Infertile.




Colour: Pink
Impresses To: Females, any sexuality, or males, usually homosexual.
Length: 15-20 feet.

Personality:
Pink dragons tend to be frivolous and sweet. They are loveable and kind, but easily distracted, which makes them less than ideal as watchdragons. Pinks tend to want to help everyone they meet, and can be slightly pushy when doing so. Mostly they like to let others take charge and do only what they are told. Being very play-oriented, pinks love to finish tasks quickly so they can go have fun. They are not the brightest of dragons.

Appearance:
Tending towards chunkiness, pinks are not the most feminine of dragons. Their wings tend to be a little on the short stubby side, as are their legs, but they have beautifully elongated necks and refined heads. To make up for their lack of intelligence, they tend to be graceful and coordinated in the air.

Colour: Black
Impresses To: Any male or female.
Length: 12-18 feet.

Personality:
For being so small, black dragons have got a lot of attitude. Their personalities vary widely, from quiet and observant introverts, to scheming and deceptive manipulators. They are not generally extroverted, but some have been known to be more outgoing than others. Most have a vindictive streak and they do not tolerate being wronged. As a rule, blacks are extremely protective of their riders.

Appearance:
Black dragons are tiny. They are the smallest dragons of the Weyr, both in length and build. Extremely narrow, and long in every aspect, blacks possess massive wings for their size. They are far and away the best fliers in the Weyr, and are exceedingly agile, making them ideal for flaming Thread in tight situations. Unfortunately, because of their size they also tire very quickly.
